Packaging Items
Updated 1 week ago
Packaging for your items is extremely important, please always remember that your items will be travelling through an automated courier network with other heavy and large items. They will travel down conveyor belts, change orientation and more. It is extremely important that you take into consideration what may this may affect your contents during transit.
Packaging your items similarly to how you would for a removals van is not suitable for a courier network.
You can use hard or soft suitcases, just make sure all straps are tucked in or removed. We do not recommend using holdalls or rucksacks. Do not lock any suitcase being sent. Customs and/or the courier may need to verify the contents of your items. We also recommend wrapping the body of your case/wheels/handles with clear wrap.
Please make sure you use strong cardboard double-walled boxes and not single-walled (crisp style) boxes. Please do not use plastic boxes as they are very brittle. If you need to purchase boxes we have some recommendations here.
You can send skis and snowboards on our services. They need to be packaged in a suitable travel bag or cases.
You can send golf bags on our services. They need to be packaged in a suitable golf bag with a hood or in a travel case or box. We recommend using bubble wrap over the heads of each club.
You can send bicycles on our services. Bicycles need to be packaged in a suitable box or in a travel case. We recommend taking your bike to a cycle shop where they can disassemble it and package it for you. Most bikes will need the wheels and handlebars removed to send.
You can see how to attach your labels here.
Items sent with any courier should be packaged appropriately and ready for a courier's internal network which will include your items coming into contact with other items.
Contents should always be well protected with the likes of bubble wrap, plastic, packing paper or even polystyrene blocks to ensure that there is no internal damage if contents are in close contact.
You may need to use packaging to divide items depending on your circumstances.
You should always ensure that bulkier items are spread out around to ensure that there is not too much weight on one part of your box/suitcase etc.
If you are using a box, please ensure you have picked a correctly sized box for your contents, poorly sized boxes is one of the most common reasons for items being damaged. E.g If you have a small heavy item in a large box with lots of empty space, this allows the item to freely move around the box and increase the potential for damage.
Please do not cut parts of a box to resize your box, this affects the overall integrity of the packaging. Please obtain suitable packaging for your contents.
Plastic boxes, plastic bags, laundry / storage bags are not suitable for transporting items and would be considered inappropriate packaging.
These should never be used to transport your contents.
It is your responsibility to use appropriate packaging, it is not the couriers.
The couriers may collect items in inappropriate packaging, this does not mean the packaging would be considered appropriate as the courier assumes you are sending your packages knowing of the potential risk for damage.
